Sands China to distribute discretionary bonus worth one month’s pay to staff

The operator of Sands China Ltd.’s casino in Macau said on Thursday that, in appreciation for their accomplishments in 2023, it plans to provide qualifying employees with a discretionary bonus equivalent to one month’s salary. On January 31, the bonus will be disbursed.

The incentive is meant to support non-management team members who have worked for the firm for more than a year, even if the total amount was not mentioned in the announcement. The company’s management incentive plan will determine the discretionary bonus for members of the management team.

Sands China has said that starting on March 1, qualifying team members would get a pay increase. It is expected that roughly 99 percent of the 26,000 employees of the firm would be impacted by this pay hike.

A MOP600 pay rise would be given to those making up to MOP13,000 (US$1,617) per month before taxes, resulting in a 4.7 percent to 5.4 percent increase in income. Employees who make more than MOP13,000 a month will get a rise of 2.5 percent.

Additionally, if they began working for Sands China before October 1 of the prior year and are still employed on the payment date, employees who have been with the company for less than a year would get prorated bonuses.

In his letter of gratitude, Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying Wai acknowledged the team members’ perseverance and spirit of cooperation in overcoming obstacles and advancing the business.

Sands China is the second of Macau’s six casino operators to formally announce a new year’s incentive for its staff, following in the footsteps of MGM China Holdings Ltd. For eligible workers, MGM China Holdings Ltd. announced a “discretionary bonus” equal to one month’s salary, to be given around Chinese New Year.
