HKJC appoints new Executive Director of Information Technology

January 5, 2024 iGaming & GamblingIndustry Updates

Starting on January 15th, Gary Delooze will serve as the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s (HKJC) new Executive Director of Information Technology.

Delooze will have a direct reporting role to CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges after being elected to the HKJC Board of Management. Strengthening the club’s leadership and best practices in areas like racing, wagering, membership, and other operations will be Delooze’s responsibility. It is expected that he will be essential to the club’s many strategic initiatives.

Having previously held roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM, Ernst & Young, and The Co-operative Bank in the United Kingdom, Gary Delooze has a strong background in information technology. Having held many roles in the financial services sector, he provides the HKJC with a wealth of experience.

Delooze emphasized how happy he was to be joining the HKJC Board of Management and how crucial technology is to the club’s operations and members’ and customers’ overall experiences. The HKJC has seen a significant increase in business when COVID-19 requirements were loosened, particularly because additional “simulcast race” days were allowed. The club is actively opposing a rise in taxation on horse racing and other gambling activities, citing Macau as an example.

For the fiscal year that concluded on June 30th, the HKJC saw a record turnover of $38.87 billion, with $13.31 billion coming from horse racing and $20 billion from football wagering.
