Malaysia secures gold medal at 3rd Global Esports Games
The Dota 2 Women’s division at the 3rd Global Esports Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, saw Malaysia win gold. The team’s triumph in defeating Peru 2-0 in the finals was facilitated by their coach, friends, and a sports psychologist.
“For a part-time, non-sponsored, zero-budget team to have gotten this far, many kind souls have played a part in helping us get here today,” the Malaysian team said on social media to express their gratitude.
In addition to taking home the gold in the women’s section, Malaysia also earned a silver medal in the open Dota 2 competition, topping Kazakhstan. The members of Malaysia’s Esports team are Pang “Ponyo” Sze Xuan, Kam “Moon” Boon Seng, Nicholas “Zeal” Lim, Ng “YamateH” Wei Phoong, and “Lonely Chucky” Kok Khin.
Due to the availability of several in-play betting options, esports is growing in popularity and attracting a younger fan base.
