Cambodia’s National Committee for Counter-Trafficking (NCCT) has formally asked Indonesian authorities’ aid in identifying illegal online gaming sites. Chou Bun Eng, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Vice-Chairwoman of the NCCT, emphasized Cambodia’s determination to tackle illegal online gambling, human trafficking, cyber fraud, wrongful incarceration, and other criminal crimes.
She asked Indonesia and other nations to share effective anti-illegal online gambling strategies or to consider collaborating with Cambodia to strengthen their partnership in combating illicit activities.
According to Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, online gambling servers are located in Cambodia and the Philippines. Despite identifying these locations, the Ministry continues to block access to gambling-related websites due to their often changing internet protocol (IP) addresses.
Current anti-illicit activity initiatives in Indonesia include restricting access to gaming websites and outlawing gambling-related bank accounts. In addition, the government has collaborated with mobile phone carriers to track phone numbers used to encourage gambling.
