Macau had close to 1 million tourist arrivals over Golden Week

Macau registered a total of 932,365 tourist arrivals over the eight-day Golden Week vacation period, averaging 116,545 people each day. Daily averages over this vacation period, which included the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, were 366% higher than they were during the same time last year, showing a remarkable rebound to pre-COVID levels of 84%.

Hotel occupancy in Macau increased by 23.7 percentage points year over year from the National Day holiday in 2022 to reach 87.9%. The greatest average occupancy rate of the year was seen on October 1st, at 94.3%.

A total of 709,079 arrivals—an average of 88,634 per day—came from mainland China over the Golden Week, which ran from September 29 to October 6—representing a 296% increase year over year. In addition, there were 171,672 visits from Hong Kong, an increase of nearly 1,070% on average over the year before. Additionally, there were 40,931 foreign tourists and 10,683 visitors from Taiwan.

The 30th of September had 158,726 visits, which was the biggest number of visitors in a single day during Golden Week.

The daily average of tourists entering Macau during Golden Week was 18.7% greater than it was during the Labour Day weekend in May. An rise of 0.9% from the Labour Day holiday and a 61.7% increase from 2022 were seen in the average hotel room fee, which came to MOP$1,804.

During Golden Week, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) collaborated with many ministries to undertake inspections, but no abnormalities were discovered. In addition, it carried out 123 checks at hotels, tourist destinations, and ports of entry without finding any irregularities—apart from one flat that was reportedly being used as an illegal hotel—but no other locations.
