Macau casinos continue operations amid Typhoon 8
The most recent Typhoon 8 to strike Macau did not result in a total suspension of casino services. In the past, tropical storms have forced the shutdown of casino operations, therefore this is considered as a change.
It was anticipated that the most recent typhoon, which hit on Monday, would lose strength by late morning. Authorities demonstrated a more measured approach to weathering storms by allowing gambling activities and normal taxi services to operate as long as there remained demand.
While the city was not entirely shut down as a consequence of the typhoon, it did cause several access ports into China and Hong Kong to close, which had an impact on cross-bridge, ferry, and aerial transport. Authorities advised locals to remain inside as much as possible throughout the storm, which saw wind gusts as high as 180 km/h.
Only one of the gaming companies, Mocha, had to halt two of its slot locations in Kuong Fat and Inner Harbour. This was probably because of the high flooding that was expected in the area.
