Australia to implement stricter pre-verification requirements for online gambling sites

October 3, 2023 World iGaming & Gambling

According to tougher pre-verification requirements, online gambling operators in Australia will have to finish Applicable Customer Identification Procedures (ACIP) starting on September 29, 2024, before authorizing new online gaming accounts or providing authorized services. To give gambling providers time to modify their systems, immediate temporary procedures have been put in place.

Customers will not be permitted to deposit funds or place bets under these terms until ACIP has been successfully completed. The intention is to protect against exploitation by criminals and to exclude anyone on the National Self-Exclusion Register from using online gaming services.

It’s vital to remember that these regulations mainly apply to online sportsbooks since Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act forbids online casino games and online poker.

The creation of a national gambling regulator for monitoring of licensing and regulating throughout the country is one of the most recent proposals from a parliamentary investigation into online gambling and its effect on individuals susceptible to gambling damage. Additionally, it suggests a three-year progressive ban on all types of online gambling promotion.
