Golden Week holiday starts strong in Macau with 158,726 visitor arrivals

On Saturday, Macau had 158,726 visitors, up 473% year-over-year, marking a good start to this year’s eight-day Golden Week vacation.

After 88,089 arrivals on Friday, the Public Security Police Force reported 246,815 arrivals for the first two days of Golden Week. The first two days of the holiday season had 394% more visitors than in 2022, but 4.2% less than in 2019, when 257,600 people arrived.

This year, mainland China accounted for 166,839 arrivals, up 329% year-over-year and 67.6% of the total, with 60,668 on Friday and 106,171 on Saturday.

Hong Kong arrivals rose 1,575% to 61,421, with 20,179 on Friday and 41,242 on Saturday.

During the first two days of Golden Week, 80,143 visitors came via the Border Gate, 57,294 over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, and 38,706 through the Hengqin Port. There were 15,770 air arrivals.

Macau’s Gaming Inspection Bureau (DICJ) released its monthly GGR statistics on Sunday, showing September gaming revenues falling month-on-month. Analysts expect October to have the highest revenue results of the year due to the Golden Week vacation.
