Tokyo police nabs two individuals involved in illegal gambling
Tokyo police have arrested two Japanese nationals for allegedly assisting 18 Japanese customers in engaging in illegal online gambling between July 2021 and July 2022. The accused ran an online payment company that began operating about 2020 and transmitted money from Japan to three specific offshore internet casinos.
Although it is believed that the two handled hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of deposits and made around $14 million from the casinos until they ceased running their money business in July 2022. As a result of transmitting money for Japanese residents to foreign online casinos so they could place covert bets using their mobile devices, they are now being prosecuted.
The suspects might get a penalty of up to five years in prison for their alleged participation in facilitating persons in accessing online casinos, in accordance with Article 186, Section 2, of the Penal Code of Japan.
Japan has now made its first arrest of a person who is reportedly assisting individuals in accessing online casinos as part of its continuing campaign against illegal gaming. The majority of Japanese individuals are still prohibited from participating in online gambling, and the nation’s regulations remain strict.
