SJM to redevelop Macau’s “Floating Casino”

September 28, 2023 Macau Casino & Hotel

SJM Holdings’ Daisy Ho, Chairman and Executive Director, discussed the company’s redevelopment strategy for several Macau neighbourhoods with the local media. Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lo), Pier 14, and Pier 16 are all included in the proposal.

The project is anticipated to start either later this year or in early 2024 after SJM Holdings filed a building plan earlier this year. The rehabilitation plan will be finished by 2026 thanks to an expected roughly two-year building period.

The “Floating Casino“‘s best conservation and restoration procedures are being determined by the firm, with its potential usage in the future still being considered.

Ho emphasised that the old clock tower would be conserved at Pier 16 in the Inner Harbour while the inside of the pier will be revived with fresh features. Pier 14 in the Inner Harbour will serve as the mooring point for the renovated floating casino.

The government won’t need to set aside money for Pier 14 and Pier 16 since they are SJM holdings, according to Leong Vai Man, director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Additionally, SJM plans to revitalise the Kam Pek Community Centre with the goal of turning it into a venue for small and medium-sized businesses to exhibit cutting-edge goods that appeal to a younger audience.

SJM intends to bring art lighting installations to the San Ma Lo neighbourhood as part of the regeneration initiatives, transforming adjoining horizontal streets like Largo do Pagode do Bazar and Ponte e Horta Square into cultural and artistic venues. A regular schedule of culinary and cultural product fairs is also planned.
