ACMA bars 5 illegal gaming sites

September 21, 2023 World Crime & LegaliGaming & Gambling

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has taken steps to block access to five illegal internet betting sites based outside of the country.

As per the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001, Viperspin, Just Casino, Betandplay, Play Fina, and Comic Play Casino all broke Australian laws on gambling.

Since 2017, when the ACMA began enforcing tougher rules against illegal foreign betting companies. In total, the ACMA has been successful in blocking 835 illegal gambling and related websites. Also, 215 illegal services have left the Australian market because of this law. This includes online casinos, digital slot machines, and platforms that make it easy to bet on sports while they are happening.

These websites are blocked if they do illegal activities like giving Australian customers unlicensed regulated interactive gambling services, promoting ads for interactive gambling services that are illegal, or running unlicensed regulated interactive gambling operations.

It is important to know that under Australian law, people who use illegal betting services are not protected by the country’s court system. So, any money lost in these activities can’t be retrieved. This shows how important it is to have strict police measures to stop illegal online gambling operations from targeting Australians.
