HK police nabs over 200 individuals over illegal gambling
Hong Kong’s local police conducted a significant operation targeting triad groups as part of a significant crackdown on organized crime. During the operation, 202 people were arrested for their participation in unlawful wagering, leading to the seizure of nearly HK$2 million (approximately $256,000) in currency and coins.
The suspects, consisting of 148 men and 54 women spanning in age from 14 to 78, were discovered to have ties to numerous city-based triad organizations.
The operation, which lasted two days, intended to combat illegal activities associated with a specific triad organization in Hong Kong, with the primary goal of disrupting their income sources. In order to accomplish this objective, law enforcement officers conducted investigations at roughly 40 locations, including arcades, unlicensed bars, private clubs, and unlawful gambling centers.
Significantly, the operation resulted in the capture of the leader of the targeted triad organization.
During a press conference, the Hong Kong Police spokesperson emphasized the significance of addressing illicit activities associated with triad organizations in the city and reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to curtail their operations. This operation reflects the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Hong Kong and eradicate the influence of criminal organizations engaged in illicit activities such as illegal wagering.
