The Macao Showcase: Sands China brings Macao to Singapore

June 9, 2023 MacauSingapore Casino & Hotel

Sands China Ltd., the largest operator of integrated resorts in Macao, commenced its ‘The Macao Showcase’ at its sister property, Marina Bay Sands, in Singapore yesterday.

Running for three days from June 7-9, 2023, the event has invited sales and trade partners, regional and international media, Singapore residents, and travelers to experience the multifaceted charm of Macao, a world center of tourism and leisure and a premier MICE destination.

The Macao Showcase is the first major event organized by Sands China in an overseas market post pandemic. It reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to support the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) in attracting more overseas travelers and diversifying visitor source markets. The event is also geared toward tourism and economic revival and promoting the ‘tourism + MICE’ cross-sector integration. Sands China also led a delegation of around 200 people from local SMEs, associations and media travelling to Singapore to promote the unique beauty, products, and arts & culture of our city.

The Opening Ceremony was held in the Sands Expo & Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands. Officiating at the ceremony were: Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Vincent U, President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute; Juliana Kua, Assistant Chief Executive of the International Group of the Singapore Tourism Board; Dr. Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China Ltd.; Grant Chum, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Sands China Ltd.; Chui Yuk Lum, President of the Industrial Association of Macau; Tina Ho, Vice President of the Macao Chamber of Commerce; Paul Town, Chief Operating Officer of Marina Bay Sands; Jocelyn Wong, Chair of the Macau Hotel Association; Fong Son Kin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Industrial Association of Macau; Andy Wu, Chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Macau; and Paul Wong, President of the Macau Leisure Tourism Service Innovation Association.

“Sands China is very excited to be in Singapore at our sister property Marina Bay Sands to give visitors a taste of Macao with The Macao Showcase,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong. “We hope this event, the first of many, helps increase Macao’s profile as an international leisure and MICE destination, thereby attracting more international visitors and extending their length of stay – in support of the Macao government’s policies and efforts to diversify visitor source markets, fuel tourism, and spur economic revitalization. We are especially pleased to use this opportunity to highlight some of Macao’s local SMEs, helping them reach a global audience. Our thanks go to the Macao SAR government, Marina Bay Sands, and all stakeholders for their steadfast support of our initiatives and the promotion of Macao as a world-class tourist destination.”

Grant Chum said: “It is our pleasure to present The Macao Showcase and to introduce with it the Sands Lifestyle+ campaign, which supports the Tourism+ concept and marketing strategy of MGTO. As a destination campaign, Sands Lifestyle+ not only promotes what our integrated resorts have to offer, but also what Macao as a city has to offer – its world heritage sites, its tourism hotspots, special events, and more. The Sands Lifestyle+ campaign provides comprehensive destination insights to our potential visitors, helping them discover and learn about Macao and enticing them to visit our exciting, culturally unique destination.”

A Taste of Macao

Visitors were invited to explore the city’s unique East-meets-West journey in ‘A Taste of Macao’. Open to the public from June 7-9, it showcases different pillars of the Macao experience including Gastronomy, Fashion, Arts & Culture, and Wellness in different zones of the tradeshow. The design of the venue creates a picture-perfect Macao ambiance with landmarks like the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Travessa da Paixao, and symbolic visuals including the city’s signature cobblestone streets, pedicabs and park benches, making it an ideal backdrop for photos and video clips to share on social media.

Culinary treasures from the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy are also on offer, with Macao’s most beloved street foods and iconic bites from a variety of Macao local SMEs. Not-to-miss delights include traditional almond cookies from Choi Heong Yuen Bakery and Yeng Kee Bakery, and nourishing congee and noodles form Wong Chi Kei. Delicacies from signature bakeries at Sands China also pamper the palate of all visitors, including David Beckham’s favorite egg tarts from Sally’s Bakery at The Parisian Macao, pork chop buns from 828 Café at The Venetian Macao and decadent chocolate treats, shortbreads, exclusive tea collections and more from Churchill’s Table Boutique at The Londoner Macao.

Continuing the journey, a speakeasy modelled after The St. Regis Bar at The Londoner Macao offers cocktails made with handcrafted gin from Macao’s own Owl Man Distillery. And a lively bazaar featuring Made-in-Macao wellness products such as kombucha, skincare and healing gemstones is available for guests to experience. Visitors can also explore the fashion and accessories created by well-known and up-and-coming fashion designers from Macao, view the ‘Between Migrations’ art exhibition on the connection between Macao and Singapore presented by Macau Youth Art Association, and enjoy mesmerizing performances of Kunqu opera by Macao artist, Ally Li. An array of busking performances and interactive experiences further spice up the exploration.

Another highlight is the exquisite invitation-only Gala Dinner, representing Sands China’s signature culinary excellence. The Gala Dinner was crafted by Sands China’s celebrated culinary talents, including Celebrity Master Chef Lan Minglu, Chef Ken Xu from North Palace, Chef Darren Cheung from Pin Yue Xuan, Chef Owen Tan from Jiang Nan by Jereme Leung, Chef Ben Lui from La Chine, and Chef Jack Xiao from The Huaiyang Garden, which has been awarded its first Michelin star recently. Guests can savor delectable dishes while being entertained in a bespoke show curated for the evening, including a ‘front row’ fashion experience showcasing designs from renowned and emerging Macao fashion brands including ‘Nuno Lopes’, ‘Salut, ça va?’, ‘NO.42’, and ‘ella épeler’.

MICE & Luxury Forum

The highly anticipated MICE & Luxury Forum will kick off with a wellness breakfast at Heliconia Ballroom tomorrow (June 8) morning. An impressive lineup of international thought leaders and MICE specialists will discuss a wide range of hot topics in the industries in five themed sessions. The forum will also be live-streamed to The Londoner Macao’s Smart Stage, a hybrid MICE broadcast space, inviting Macao’s college students and MICE association members to participate and connect internationally.
