Can Live Blackjack ever reach the Heights of Poker?

September 7, 2021 iGaming & Gambling

Blackjack and poker are both really good online games as players stand a good chance of winning huge sums of money when playing either but the main difference between poker and blackjack is, in blackjack you are not playing against the other players but against the “house”. In other words, it’s you versus the casino’s edge. However, in poker, you will play against the other poker players. Your chance of winning depends on how skilled you and your competitors are.

The poker game rose to fame in the early 2000s. In order to determine whether blackjack will reach poker’s level, we need to look at how poker began.

The poker boom

Poker became extremely popular from around 2003 to 2006. It is the period when poker stopped being a game that was only played in backrooms and became a big pastime that was enjoyed by millions of people in public. The most popular type of poker that was played during poker’s exponential rise to fame was Texas hold’em. Other variations that were popular are 5-card draw and 7-card stud.

The poker boom happened because of many contributing factors. For instance, in 1998, there was a popular film called Rounders, starring Edward Norton and Matt Damon. The film is about a skilled poker player, Mike McDermott, who was a student. Mike was forced to play poker against a mobster called Teddy KGB in order to pay off his friend’s debt. The movie gained traction and a huge following. Some very talented poker professors have confessed that the movie made them start playing poker. The movie planted seeds of interest in some people.
