German eSports

E-sports has developed into a mainstream culture in Europe. 1/3 of people in Europe have seen e-sports. E-sports enthusiasts are mainly distributed in the generation born between 1995 and 2009, with an average age of less than 25 years old.

Germany is the country with the fastest growing e-sports culture in Europe, and universities also have e-sports management majors. Berlin and Cologne are known as the “e-sports capitals”. The European LEC league of “League of Legends” holds regular seasons in Berlin, and Berlin has also become the host of the first PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds PGS global series.

Cologne holds the Gamescom game exhibition every year. The headquarters of the well-known European E-Sports League (ESL) is also located here. Their events cover Dota 2 (DOTA2), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), League of Legends (LOL), StarCraft II, PUBG and many other projects, from time to time, competitions are held at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. American game publisher (EA) also has a branch in Cologne. Cologne mainly relies on professional institutions to promote the development of e-sports.
