London-Based Gaming Startup Tribally Targets Expansion in the Philippines with Play-to-Earn Model

September 3, 2024 Philippines Blockchain

London-based gaming startup Tribally is aiming to increase its presence in the Philippines with its play-to-earn (P2E) model, which emphasizes sustainable rewards and enhanced player experience.

The company launched its platform in November 2023 and has already attracted 70,000 active gamers by the end of July 2024.
Tribally’s native token, $TRIBAL, plays a central role in the platform. It unlocks exclusive perks, powers social features like peer-to-peer (P2P) betting, and allows users to stake their tokens for a share of the network’s growth. According to the company, players use $TRIBAL and $USDC as wager currencies, earning a commission on all wagers placed. This revenue is allocated strategically: part goes directly to the players, part supports the game’s ecosystem, and the rest sustains Tribally’s P2P wagering service, creating a “win-win-win” scenario.

Market analyst “Indes” revealed that a significant portion of Tribally’s players, supporters, and team members are from the Philippines. “The Philippines has an unmatched passion for gaming in general. We believe that the strong community here aligns perfectly with our vision of fostering sustainable, community-driven play-to-earn experiences,” Indes was quoted as saying in a report published by GMA Network.

Tribally’s involvement in the Philippines is notable given the country’s strong gaming culture. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Axie Infinity, a game closely associated with Tribally, became a cultural phenomenon in the Philippines. Filipinos constituted about half of Axie Infinity’s global player base, which reached a peak of 2.7 million daily active users (DAUs). Tribally contributed significantly to Axie’s success by developing Axie Tech, used by over 1 million players, and AxieInfinity.com, the official website for the Axie Universe.

In addition to its gaming platform, Tribally has partnered with local Web3 edutech company Bitskwela. This collaboration aims to offer an extensive on-chain gaming education program. The program includes online courses, educational content featuring prominent influencers, and user guides available on Bitskwela’s platform. Tribally and Bitskwela will also conduct a university tour in the last quarter of 2024, featuring interactive gaming workshops designed to equip students with skills and knowledge for the evolving world of on-chain gaming.
