PAGCOR Warns IGLs of Fake Memo Demanding Immediate Shutdown
The Philippine gaming regulator PAGCOR has warned licensed Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs) about a disinformation campaign involving a fake letter instructing them to cease operations immediately.
Atty. Jessa Mariz Fernandez, head of PAGCOR’s Offshore Gaming Licensing Department, stated that the forged memo, dated July 26, falsely claims to be an order to local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila. This letter is a counterfeit version of an official memo she issued three days earlier, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address, during which he announced a ban on all IGLs, or POGOs, effective at the end of the year.
Fernandez clarified, “We have not issued any memorandum directing LGUs to immediately shut down POGO operations. The President’s directive is clear: we have until the end of the year to wind down POGO operations, and we will adhere to that.”
