Mass-market baccarat in Macau generated revenue of $4.16 billion

Mass-market baccarat generated slightly more than MOP33.53 billion (US$4.16 billion) during the fourth quarter of 2023, up 12.6 percent over the previous quarter, according to data from Macau’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

This quarterly total was equivalent to around 109.2 percent of the mass-market baccarat gross gaming revenue (GGR) reported in the fourth quarter of 2019, the previous fiscal year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

VIP baccarat had a 7.9 percent quarterly gain over the same time, totaling MOP12.70 billion and representing around 39.3 percent of fourth-quarter 2019 levels. VIP Baccarat has a 23.5% market share in GGR as of Q4 2023.

Slot machine revenue climbed by 4.1 percent quarterly, with a roughly 5.5 percent market share and sales of over MOP2.97 billion.

The mass-market industry’s total income for the three months ending December 31, which includes slot machine revenue, exceeded MOP41.41 billion, or more than 76.5 percent of Macau’s casino GGR. The GGR obtained during the same time in 2019 accounted for 103.9 percent of the results of this quarter.

Macau’s gross domestic product (GGR) rose by 10.9 percent to MOP54.11 billion in the fourth quarter, from MOP48.81 billion in the three months before. October has been the strongest monthly result since the COVID-19 pandemic started in January 2020.

In a statement released earlier this month, JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Ltd. predicted that Macau casino corporate earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in the fourth quarter would rise from 80% in the third quarter to roughly 85% of pre-Covid levels, a 10% sequential increase.
