Singaporean police probes 42 individuals for suspected illicit gambling activities

Police in Singapore are now looking into 42 individuals for their possible participation in illicit gambling inside the city-state. These people were apprehended on October 30 and November 3 during a series of anti-gambling operations. Their ages ranged from 19 to 64.

It is alleged that thirteen individuals have given gambling syndicates access to their bank accounts in order to support illicit gaming-related operations. In addition, 27 others are charged with accessing unlicensed gambling websites or apps and sending money to bank accounts these syndicates control. Allegedly, two other individuals procured phone numbers used by these gambling establishments.

In Singapore, there is a seven-year prison sentence and a fine of SG$200,000 ($148,000) for those who oversee illegal betting organizations or act as agents.

Notably, a $2 billion money laundering scheme involving people reportedly connected to illegal Chinese gambling companies was busted by Singaporean authorities lately.
