Alice Guo’s sister may be deported to China, Says Bureau of Immigration

August 27, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

Sheila Guo, sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, could be deported to China once her legal issues in the Philippines are resolved. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has confirmed that Sheila Guo, who also uses the name Zhang Mier, is a Chinese citizen with an active Chinese passport valid until 2031.

Currently, Sheila Guo is detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). She, along with her companion Cassandra Li Ong, faces several serious charges including obstruction of justice, harboring a fugitive, and violating the Philippine Passport Act. Additionally, Sheila is involved in a deportation case before the BI for being an “undesirable alien” and for possible misrepresentation as a Filipino national.

In a report published by the Philippine Star, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco was quoted as saying that if Sheila is proven to have fraudulently obtained her Philippine documents, she will face deportation to China. However, this action will be deferred until all her criminal cases and other legal issues in the Philippines are resolved.

The BI will work closely with the NBI and the Department of Justice to investigate Sheila’s case and her connection to her dismissed mayor sister and other associates. Reports suggest that Alice Guo may have attempted to leave the country through informal channels. She reportedly traveled from the Philippines to Denpasar, Bali in Indonesia on July 17, then to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the next day. Alice, her siblings Wesley and Shiela Guo, and Ong then flew to Singapore on July 21, and subsequently returned to Indonesia on August 18.

In Singapore, it is believed that Sheila met her parents Lin Wen Yi and Guo Jian Zhong, as well as Cassandra Li Ong. Ong is known to be the authorized representative of Lucky South 99, a company that leased land to a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Porac, Pampanga. The Guo siblings and their parents are subjects of an arrest warrant issued by the Senate related to a POGO investigation. Additionally, the House of Representatives has issued a contempt order against Ong.

Sheila and Ong were apprehended by immigration authorities at Mega Mall Batam Centre in Riau, Indonesia. They were deported back to the Philippines last Thursday, August 22. Efforts are ongoing to locate the dismissed mayor Alice Guo and Wesley Guo, who remain at large.
