Alice Guo Might Have Left PH Using Chinese Passport, Says Gatchalian

July 17, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

Senator Gatchalian raised the possibility that Alice Guo could have left the country using her Chinese passport. The senator believes Guo may have used her Chinese passport to evade authorities, despite her lawyer’s insistence that she remains in the Philippines.

Speaking on Radyo 630, Gatchalian was quoted as saying in a July 17 report published by the Inquirer: “Sa mga information namin sa Bureau of Immigration ay nandito pa siya dahil cheneck namin kung si Guo Hua Ping ay umalis na ng Pilipinas, wala naman silang nakitang ganun na record so far.”

[“Based on our information from the Bureau of Immigration, she’s still here because we checked if Guo Hua Ping has already left the Philippines, but they haven’t found such a record so far.”]

He acknowledged that while the usual airport and seaport checkpoints should detect the suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor, there are other ways to escape the country.

The National Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the suspended Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo and Chinese passport holder Guo Hua Ping are the same person. Gatchalian alleged that Guo has been using both Chinese and Philippine passports from 2008 to 2011 and might still be using her Chinese passport to elude the authorities.

“Ako kasi naniniwala ako na yung kanyang Chinese passport, nandiyan pa,” he said, suggesting that Guo might have used it to flee.

[“I believe her Chinese passport is still there.”]

Senator Gatchalian reiterated his call for Guo to surrender and face the Senate investigation.

In a separate interview with GMA Network on July 16, Gatchalian was quoted as saying: “I am very confident she is still in the country because there is a hold departure order due to the arrest order. Unless she tries to leave through the back door via Zamboanga or Tawi-Tawi, which is another matter, but our Bureau of Immigration is on alert at normal entry and exit points.”

The senator urged Guo to turn herself in, emphasizing that living a normal life would be impossible under the current circumstances.

[“I am calling on her to surrender voluntarily. She cannot eat at restaurants because once she is spotted, she will be apprehended. She cannot leave her house or go to malls. Her life will not be normal.

[“The best thing for her is to just surrender so we can continue with the hearing because if this continues, her life will not be normal since she won’t be able to leave her hiding place.”]

Gatchalian pointed out that the deactivation of Guo’s Facebook page indicates she is in hiding. “Definitely, she is hiding. She doesn’t want her past to be scrutinized, not only by enforcers but also by media personalities,” he said.

Alice Guo was ordered arrested by the Senate on July 13 for her repeated failure to attend the committee on women’s hearings. The investigation links her to a raided Philippine offshore gaming operator in Bamban, Tarlac. Despite her lawyer Stephen David’s repeated assurances that she is still in the country, the allegations and suspicions continue to mount.
