Bamban “Mayor Alice Guo” case takes intriguing twist

June 28, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

When it was discovered that a Philippine local mayor accused of supporting the unlawful actions of a criminal POGO operator was actually a Chinese national, one of the year’s most fascinating stories took a drastic turn.

Based on fingerprint comparisons, local media revealed on Thursday that Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, currently under Senate investigation, is actually a Chinese woman named Guo Hua Ping.

Senator Risa Hontiveros disclosed the discovery, stating, “The fingerprints are of one and the same person.” This validates my initial suspicions. Mayor Alice is actually Guo Hua Ping, a phony Filipino. She is a Chinese national posing as a Filipino to assist POGOs in their crimes.

According to earlier IAG reports, Guo is alleged to have assisted in the unlawful actions of POGO company Zun Yuan Technologies Incorporated, whose offices were searched earlier this year on suspicion of engaging in bitcoin fraud and human trafficking.

In May, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) brought accusations against Guo for gross neglect of duty, serious misconduct, and behavior detrimental to the best interests of the service. The Office of the Ombudsman also placed her on administrative leave for six months, pending further investigation. Guo has consistently denied all charges.

Hontiveros is now demanding that Guo be removed from office.

She declared, “This revelation is not the end. We will soon discover the full scope of your deceit, Guo Hua Ping. We’ll dig deeper to find the underlying causes of our POGO issue.”

The issue of offshore gaming operators, now referred to as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs), remains contentious in the Philippines, with some senators advocating for a complete ban. After putting all POGO license holders on probationary status last year, PAGCOR recently granted its first offshore gaming licenses under the IGL moniker, promising to clean up the industry.
