Analysts have raised alarms about offshore casinos in the Philippines, warning they could serve as Trojan horses for China in a conflict.
A Trojan horse is a method by which an adversary carries out subversive activities from within, originating from the story of how the ancient Greeks used a wooden horse to infiltrate and conquer Troy.
Analysts suggest China might use offshore casinos, known as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs), for surprise attacks on the Philippines, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Chester Cabalza, President and Founder of International Development and Security Cooperation (IDSC), stated, “The POGOs are deemed a Trojan horse that can stage a surprise attack in the Philippines for their unrestricted warfare.”
These casinos have faced scrutiny recently, especially those near military sites, raising suspicions of espionage.
Chinese casinos and POGOs are located near key Philippine military and police headquarters, posing a national security threat, warned Cabalza.
