APAC interest in UEFA Euro 2024 high: Report

High global interest in UEFA Euro 2024 is evident, with Africa and the Asia-Pacific regions particularly engaged in watching broadcasts, according to the latest TGM Global Euro Report 2024 by TGM Research. The survey, conducted from May 10th to 28th, 2024, across 26 countries, targeted adults aged 18 to 55+.

Barclays Plc analysts forecast a significant increase in wagers for the 2024 tournament, totaling $35 billion, up 65% from the previous edition due to increased online gambling during the pandemic. Interest in the European national team competition remains strong.

In APAC, the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Euro Championship have been the top three most-followed football competitions over the past five years, as per survey results.

Chinese online travel agency Trip.com Group highlighted a surge in sports tourism from Asia for UEFA Euro 2024, coupled with increased sports betting activities. Several Asian countries have issued warnings about illegal football betting ahead of the championship.

Globally, 57% of TGM survey respondents expressed interest in UEFA Euro 2024, with Africa leading at 40% and the Asia-Pacific region at 29%. Traditional TV remains popular, but digital streaming is gaining popularity, especially among younger viewers.

In the Asia-Pacific region, 68% of the population shows a strong interest in football, with high enthusiasm observed in India (81%), Indonesia (80%), and Thailand (68%). These countries are noted for their avid football fan bases.

The TGM research included findings from five APAC countries, with India, Indonesia, and Australia showing significant interest in UEFA Euro 2024, particularly among younger demographics favoring digital streaming platforms alongside traditional TV broadcasts.
