POGO Mayor Faces Serious Charges in Philippines

June 18, 2024 Philippines Crime & LegaliGaming & Gambling

A “serious” and “non-bailable” criminal indictment is anticipated against suspended Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo in relation to her alleged role in an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub.

On Saturday, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) released the information.

The accusations, which are expected to be finished on Tuesday, are directed at Guo and other members of the Zun Yuan Technology POGO, which was raided in March on suspicion of engaging in human trafficking and unlawful detention.

Once known as Hongsheng, the same area was the target of an attack in 2023.

Official Winston John Casio of the PAOCC confirmed that Guo’s name is on important documents, but he refrained from sharing any details in order to protect the prosecution.

According to Casio, “strong evidence” will support the accusations.

Guo was suspended in May due to suspected connections to the POGO hub. President Marcos Jr. is still under pressure from lawmakers to outlaw POGOs, alleging links to organized crime and worries about national security.
