Senator Calls for Senate Probe into Surge of Chinese Nationals in Multinational Village, Parañaque City

June 10, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

A Senate inquiry has been requested by Senator Rafael “Raffy” Tulfo on the growing population of Chinese nationals in Multinational Village, Parañaque City, Metro Manila.

Senate Resolution 1043, which represents Tulfo’s appeal, was sparked by growing concerns from the community regarding the increasing number of Chinese immigrants since 2019.

These concerns stemmed from the possibility that potential Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) might infiltrate the upscale gated community.

Referencing claims of densely populated homes that defy community standards, Tulfo emphasized the significance of examining the nation’s immigration regulations to find any gaps.

Senate Resolution 1032, proposed by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, asks for an examination of any possible fraud and human trafficking inside the subdivision.

Gatchalian noted recent law enforcement actions and citizens’ concerns with the surge of “suspicious-looking” foreign immigrants, particularly in the “City Garden” region.

More worries were raised by a raid that led to the arrest of ten Chinese nationals suspected of being involved in cryptocurrency and romance frauds, as well as the discovery of a Filipino bodyguard in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

These people are suspected of having ties to earlier illicit gambling operations in Bamban, Tarlac.

In order to shield Filipino citizens from the growing number of crimes involving foreign people, Gatchalian underlined the significance of revealing governmental shortcomings and bolstering security measures.

In order to protect national safety and security, he emphasized the significance of upholding international treaties and conventions on human trafficking and cybercrime.
