GambleAware Receives £49.5m in Donations, Calls for Smooth Funding Transition

During the fiscal year 2023–24, the gaming industry voluntarily donated £49.5 million to GambleAware, the leading charity in the UK for gambling harm prevention.

The four-year promise by big operators to increase donations ends this year.

CEO Zoë Osmond acknowledges the gifts but emphasizes the need for a seamless shift to a government-mandated levy in favor of voluntary contributions.

It is anticipated that this reform will provide consistent financing for important initiatives run by GambleAware, like the National Gambling Helpline.

The nonprofit also underlined how important it is to keep disruptions to a minimum during the transition in order to preserve current services for those with gambling addictions.

Additionally, GambleAware has advocated for stronger health warnings in gambling advertisements and, in response to queries concerning its independence from the gaming industry, has pointed to its sound governance practices.
