Macau’s Allure Endures: Big Spenders Driving Recovery

May 30, 2024 Macau iGaming & GamblingIndustry Updates

Even with a slower-than-anticipated rebound in tourism, a recent survey affirms Macau’s persistent appeal to affluent Chinese travelers.

Large Spenders Stay Loyal: According to a CLSA survey, 85% of respondents plan to keep or increase their gaming spending, with many allocating more than $3,460 per person.

This is encouraging for hotels, dining establishments, and casinos.

The front runners are premium players. The poll centers on the continued strength of the premium sector.

They want to stay longer and make more frequent visits than they did in 2023. Interestingly, more than half (48%) want to place all of their bets in Macau, proving its supremacy.

Ease in Obtaining Visas: The recent easing of visa requirements is said to be a primary factor contributing to the increase of mass tourism.

If the application procedure were made simpler, nearly half of the participants said they would visit sooner.

Even though a lot of individuals schedule trips to many resorts, Sands China—especially The Venetian Macao—continues to lead the industry. Wynn Macau and MGM China, however, are becoming more popular.

The prognosis is favorable even though the number of tourists hasn’t fully recovered, Macau continues to draw wealthy travelers.

The longevity of the premium category and its potential for growth in the mass market are encouraging for Macau’s tourism industry.
