Macau Lures High Rollers with Repeat Visits
A recent CLSA analysis reveals that China’s elite mass gamblers are making more return trips, despite a slight decline in overall visitor numbers.
Overtaking pre-pandemic levels (57% in 2019), 70% of these high rollers want to visit Macau multiple times in the upcoming year.
In addition, they like longer stays—96% of them choose two or more nights, compared to 93% of the basic mass section.
Macau’s resilience is attributed by analysts to its specific traveler demographic, which is wealthier and less susceptible to economic downturns.
Morale was further raised by Beijing’s recent simplification of the visa application process, with 45% of respondents stating they want to visit sooner as a result. With over half (48%) of respondents planning to wager entirely there, Macau’s proximity continues to be a key advantage. Macau continues to rule over China’s high-spending gamblers, while Singapore emerges as the top alternative destination (20%).
