China Eases Entry Measures to Boost Macau and Hong Kong Tourism

April 30, 2024 China Industry Updates

The Macau and Hong Kong tourism and leisure sectors will benefit from the actions outlined by China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA), which includes simplified procedures for visitors from the mainland.

Hengqin-Macau tours for mainland visitors will start offering several visits in a seven-day period on May 6. All over the nation, public security offices are accepting applications.

With the implementation of “full online processing” for 20 mainland locations, the NIA made it possible to renew a passport and travel card online and receive an issued document in a week.

“Intelligent expedited processing” enables business visa applications to be filed at any public security bureau worldwide, with Hong Kong and Macao providing 14-day extensions.

Professionals with up to five-year visas that cover six talent categories can now enter Macau with expanded privileges for those based in Beijing, Shanghai, and the Greater Bay Area.

Citizens on the mainland are eligible to apply for multiple-visit visas to Macau for performing arts, exhibitions, and medical treatment within a year, with the ability to bring companions.

Lawrence Ho applauded the modifications for long-term economic growth, while JP Morgan commended them as beneficial for Macau’s casino business, noting more tourism.

In order to maintain tourism growth, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) promises to coordinate marketing efforts with these measures.
