6 Chinese POGO workers found in scam hub, revealed as fugitives facing charges in China

April 4, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

Six Chinese employees of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO), who were previously apprehended in a scam hotspot in Bamban, Tarlac, have been identified as fugitives, subject to prosecution in their own country.

As to the findings of Saleema Refran’s article on “24 Oras,” the Chinese nationals were subject to arrest warrants on many counts, which included operating illegal gambling operations and fraud. Furthermore, authorities are holding another Taiwanese fugitive alone.

Criminals had previously been caught within POGO facilities, as noted by Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz, Executive Director of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC). He drew attention to the companies’ failure to do background checks on its staff, alleging that those with criminal histories may be recruited as enforcers or take part in unspeakable acts against other POGO workers, such as physical or verbal abuse.

Cruz said that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has collaborated with PAOCC to ensure strict adherence to licenses granted to POGO employees.

In response to allegations of forcible incarceration and physical abuse of certain workers, Zun Yuan Technologies was raided in March of this year. The company has refuted the accusations, however.
