March 18, 2024 Philippines Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

Several Philippine media outlets report that a groundbreaking ceremony for a new PHP16.6 billion (about US$300 million) casino resort in Subic Bay was conducted on Thursday.

The Subic Special Economic and Freeport Zone, sometimes referred to as Subic Bay Freeport, is where the Subic Sun Convention Resort and Casino will be situated.

The property’s first phase is expected to open in late 2025. It is located in Central Luzon, some 106 miles (170 kilometers) northwest of Manila, the nation’s capital.

Hotel rooms from the Accor Group’s Ibis Styles and Mercure Hotels brands would be included in the project, according to Eduardo Jose Aliño, the Administrator and Chairperson of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

Anticipated to open in 2026, Ibis Styles Subic will have 175 rooms along with amenities including a gym, meeting rooms, and swimming pool. The chairman and president of Sun Convention Resort and Casino Inc., Pablo Edgardo Puyat, claims that this will be Subic’s first hotel with a worldwide brand.

One of the news sources states that the 250-room Mercure Subic is scheduled to open in 2026.

The number of tables and electronic games, as well as the casino’s opening date, were not included in the publications.
