Nagasaki decides not to pursue IR plan
Following the Central Government’s rejection of their integrated resort (IR) plan in December of last year, the Nagasaki Prefectural Government has decided not to proceed with it.
The Nagasaki Prefectural Administration had until March 27th to submit a request to use the administrative complaint review procedure, according to The Asahi Shimbun.
On the other hand, Prefectural Government representatives acknowledged their inability to implement the current plan and said at a meeting of the Prefectural Assembly Committee on March 13th that they would not be seeking an administrative complaint review.
The Ministry of Infrastructure rejected the Nagasaki Prefectural Government’s application for the IR because of concerns about the project’s funding source.
In April of last year, the Central Government of Japan approved the construction of the nation’s first casino, to be built in Osaka.
The initial plan was for Nagasaki Prefecture to welcome 8.4 million visitors annually, bringing in around JPY 270 billion ($1.81 billion).
