After overcoming a field of 1,182 entries, including 737 different players, Japanese player Daisuke Ogita won the Asia Poker Tour Taipei Main Event with a buy-in of TWD70,000 (US$2,270).
Ogita took home a prize of TWD12.9 million (US$409,730). In a brief heads-up match, Ogita overcame Guo Zhang Xi; the Taiwanese player took up TWD7,620,000 (US$241,205) for second place.
With a prize pool of TWD72.2 million (US$2.2 million), the Main Event has surpassed the previous record set by the 2023 APT Taipei Main Event, making it the biggest tournament ever held in Taiwan.
The first prize won by Ogita is the richest in Taiwanese poker history and the second largest reward ever awarded in an APT Main Event.
With this victory, Ogita not only achieved his highest score to date in his career, but he also moved up five spots to the eighth spot on Japan’s All-Time Money List, surpassing notable players like as Iori Yogo and Jun Obara, with Nozomu Shimizu still to catch.
The APT Taipei Main Event, which took place over the course of 12 exciting days at APT Taipei 2024 and included 105 Trophy Events with prize pool guarantees of over TWD150 million (US$4.8 million), was the longest and largest festival in the history of the Asian Poker Tour.
