DOT reports 24.4% increase in visitor arrivals to PH during Jan, Feb

In comparison to the same period previous year, the Department of Tourism (DOT) reported a 24.4 percent increase in visitor arrivals to the Philippines in January and February.

The total visits in the first two months of 2024 were close to 1.16 million. If Filipinos living abroad are not included, the nation welcomed almost 1.1 million international visitors—a noteworthy increase of 27.6%.

With over 329,651 visitor visits recorded during the two months—a 28.9 percent increase over 2023—South Korea continued to hold its position as the country’s leading source of arriving tourists.

In terms of source markets, the United States continued to rank second with 185,387 visits throughout this period.

With 82,314 visitors, China jumped to third place, a startling 235 percent gain. The February Chinese New Year is the reason for this surge.

This year, there was a 76.5 percent rise in the number of Japanese tourists, totaling 67,422 arrivals during a two-month period.

In order to exceed the 5.45 million international visitor arrivals from the previous year, the DOT has set a baseline objective of 7.7 million for 2024.
