March 11, 2024 Macau Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

The Macau SAR Government received MOP$7.46 billion (US$926 million) in gaming tax revenue in February, according to the Financial Services Bureau (DSF).

This is a noteworthy 63% increase in tax revenue over the same month in 2023, when it was MOP$4.51 billion (US$195 million). Additionally, this figure showed a 1.6% rise from January.

Following the easing of border restrictions on January 8, 2023, Macau’s casino sector has had an incredible comeback, as shown by the notable year-over-year increase. From MOP$42.2 billion (US$5.26 billion) in 2022 to MOP$183.06 billion (US$22.75 billion) in 2023, Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) climbed by 334%.

According to a recent DSF study, gaming tax revenue reached MOP$65.3 billion (US$8.10 billion) in 2023, up 241% annually.

The concessionaires’ January GGR figures, which reached MOP$19.33 billion (US$2.40 billion) and represented a 67% increase over the same period in 2023, are consistent with the gaming tax revenue in Macau for February.

In 2024, the gaming tax revenue for the first two months amounted to MOP$14.8 billion (US$1.84 billion), signifying a robust annual growth of 143%. This amount amounts to 17.7% of the MOP$83.6 billion (US$10.4 billion) government budget for FY24.
