The following Tuyan residents were arrested as a consequence of the raid, which happened at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024: Jerson Laput Manija, Gerardo Tampus Baydal, Estan Eslao Laput Alingalan, Larry Vidal Escalante, Benjie Boquia Villarreal, and Ranyl Puerto Amerila.

They were apprehended while taking part in an illegal cockfight, referred to as “tigbakay” among the community. Following a report regarding the ongoing illegal activity, Lieutenant Colonel William Homoc, head of the Naga City Police Station, oversaw the operation.

Officials found P2,800 in wagering money and two cockfighting-bladed roosters during the search, providing clear evidence of the event’s illicit nature. The imprisoned individuals are now being prosecuted for engaging in illegal gambling, which is a serious offense in the Philippines.

In order to enforce the law and safeguard animal welfare, it highlights the need of community watchfulness and cooperation with law enforcement. It also serves as a warning to those who are engaged in or considering participating in illegal gambling activities, drawing attention to the potential legal repercussions of such behavior.

More than just a crackdown on an illegal cockfight, the six arrests made in Naga City represent a significant step toward fostering a legal and law-abiding society. A safer and more law-abiding society is anticipated as a consequence of continued collaboration between the community and law enforcement, which is expected to significantly reduce the incidence of illegal gaming.
