Macau casino GGR surges by 79.1% year-on-year in February

Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau released statistics on Friday showing that the gross gaming revenue (GGR) of the city’s casinos reached MOP18.49 billion (US$2.29 billion) in February, up 79.1% year over year. But compared to January, this outcome was a 4.4% drop.

February’s GGR fell sequentially, even though experts reported a “strong performance” over the Chinese New Year holiday, which took place from February 10 to February 17.

The daily GGR during the peak lunar new year holidays likely exceeded MOP1 billion for the first time in over four years, surpassing MOP900 million per day rates during the previous Golden Week in October, according to a report released by JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Ltd after the Chinese New Year.

Based on the most recent data, Macau’s gross domestic product (GGR) for the first two months of 2024 was over MOP37.82 billion, a significant increase of 72.7 percent over the same period the year before.
