Macau announces open tender for Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal ops

February 22, 2024 Macau Industry Updates

For the management of the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal, which is currently operated by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, S.A. (STDM), the parent company of Macau casino concessionaire SJM Resorts, the Macau SAR Government will organize an open tender.

In October 2018, STDM received a license to operate the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal, which included overseeing the business sector for 66 months. The government has declared in the official gazette that it would hold an open competition to choose the terminal’s new operator since this agreement is due to expire.

Although the exact details of the bidding process are yet unknown, it is anticipated that the successful bidder will be in charge of overseeing and administering the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal’s business activities. The chosen operator will also have to pay MOP$1,800,800 (US$223,300) every month in return to the government.

STDM did not have to pay the Macau government any monthly returns throughout the 2020–2023 pandemic period.

At the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal, Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited is now in charge of ferry operations. The company primarily operates the TurboJET brand of travel between Hong Kong and Macau.

Managing Director and Group Executive Chairman Pansy Ho is the head of Shun Tak Holdings’ subsidiary Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited. In addition, Pansy Ho holds the positions of Executive Director and Co-Chairman of MGM China Holdings Limited, the company that owns the bulk of STDM.
