Kangwon Land eyes Taiwan, Philippine clients

In an attempt to draw in customers from outside, Kangwon Land Inc., the owner of the only casino in South Korea open to locals, has signed general sales agency agreements with businesses in Taiwan and the Philippines.

The agreements, which were signed on Monday and go into effect right away, aim to increase Kangwon Land’s competitiveness in the global market given that the resort is located around 150 kilometers from Seoul. Due to its distinct regulatory position, Kangwon Land Inc. has traditionally served to local clients; it anticipates that new agreements will broaden its global reach.

Rakso Travel, based in the Philippines, will serve as a sales agent for Philippine Airlines and specialize in package vacations to South Korea, while Far East International Co Ltd, with its headquarters in Taiwan, will function as a sales agent for Vietnamese airline Vietjet Air and South Korean airline Fly Gangwon.

These alliances, according to interim CEO Choi Cheol-Gyu, are only the beginning of Kangwon Land’s efforts to engage with customers in Southeast Asia and Greater China. He emphasized that by tailoring offerings to foreign guests, the partnerships would facilitate foreign tourists to the resort and assist Kangwon Land improve its name globally.
