The Commercial Gaming income Tracker from the American Gaming Association (AGA) projects that in 2023, the state of Washington would see a record high of US$66.52 billion in revenue from commercial gaming.

With the exception of tribal gaming revenue, this was the industry’s third consecutive year of record revenue growth, up 10.0% from the previous year.

AGA reports that the commercial gaming income for the fourth quarter of 2023 reached an all-time high of US$17.42 billion, with December generating approximately US$6.22 billion, the highest-grossing month in the history of the US gaming industry.

“From traditional casino offerings to online options, there is unprecedented demand for gaming among American adults,” states Bill Miller, President and CEO of the AGA.

Slot machines and table games at physical casinos brought in a record US$49.36 billion in 2023, up 3.3% from the previous year. In the United States, 15 out of 27 traditional gaming markets at the state level achieved record annual income.

A percentage of 75.3% of total income in 2023 came from commercial land-based gaming, which includes retail sports betting, table games, and slot machines in casinos.

By 2023, internet gaming—which includes sports betting and casinos—will generate US$16.43 billion, or more than one-quarter (24.7%) of all commercial gaming revenue in the US. Full-scale, authorized internet gaming, or “iGaming,” brought in US$6.17 billion in revenue in 2017. This is a 22.9 percent annual growth. In six US states, this kind of online gambling is now accessible.

The anticipated $14.42 billion in direct gaming revenue taxes paid by commercial gambling operators in the US during the year amounted to a 9.7% rise from the previous year.
