Cambodia’s PM issues directive for inspection of all gambling establishments
In order to assess the nation’s gambling laws, the prime minister of Cambodia has ordered a thorough inspection of all gaming establishments nationwide as well as an urgent conference with provincial and capital officials. Dr. Hun Manet has urged governors around the nation to move swiftly to regulate gambling locally, according to the Khmer Times.
In addition, the prime minister has ordered governors to report any reopening of casinos and has threatened to revoke licenses in every province in the country. He emphasized the need to give agricultural and infrastructural projects precedence over casino enterprises.
Although it is against the law for Cambodian citizens to gamble, persons holding foreign passports are permitted to place bets. The most well-known casino in Cambodia is called NagaWorld, and it is situated in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
Once a hive of casinos, especially those supported by Chinese capital, Sihanoukville has seen a gradual decline in recent years due to investor pullouts from casino ventures and China’s economic downturn.
However, data from the three-day Chinese New Year vacation indicates that over 300,000 visitors came to Sihanoukville, the majority of them were domestic visitors (more than 280,000).
