Macau authorities reports 121,356 visitor arrivals on first day of CNY holiday period

February 12, 2024 Macau Industry Updates

With 121,356 visitor arrivals on the first day of the eight-day Chinese New Year vacation, Macau’s Public Security Police Force reports that the holiday is off to a great start.

With a 274% improvement over the same day in 2023 and an 88.7% increase over the daily average from the previous year, this statistic indicates a significant improvement over the previous year.

Notably, the first Chinese New Year Golden Week in 2023 occurred after the reopening of Macau’s borders on January 8.

Saturday saw the arrival of 82,674 individuals from mainland China—a 364% increase over the previous year—and 27,789 individuals from Hong Kong—a 127% increase.

Travelers arrived in Macau in three different ways: via the Border Gate (39,733), the HKZM Bridge (32,602), and the Hengqin Port (17,57). Moreover, almost 20,000 individuals arrived by water, and 9,428 by airplane.

Over Golden Week, the Macao Government Tourism Office projects 960,000 tourists, or 120,000 each day on average, with the busiest days being the third and fourth.

The Chinese New Year holiday in 2023 was shorter than in previous years, lasting just seven days, and had 451,000 visitors—64,429 on average—per day. By contrast, 1,213,487 people visited the seven-day vacation in 2019, or 173,355 people per day on average.
