The Star appoints new CEO of its Brisbane ops

January 24, 2024 World Casino & Hotel

Daniel Finch has been named CEO of the Star Entertainment Group’s Brisbane division, pending regulatory clearance.

Finch will report to Robbie Cook, the managing director and CEO of the firm, and is anticipated to begin in the role in the middle of February 2024. The Star is a member of the team working on the Wharf Brisbane project in collaboration with Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium International, two companies with headquarters in Hong Kong. Queen’s Wharf is scheduled to open in April of this year, despite the fact that construction has taken longer than anticipated.

These days, The Star owns and runs two casinos in Queensland: The Star Gold Coast and The Treasury Brisbane. The state government of Queensland is keeping an eye on the operations of the casinos and has stopped awarding licenses. The Queensland regulator gave the independent manager in charge of The Star Entertainment’s operations a one-year extension, giving them more time to implement the required corrective actions.

Daniel Finch is a qualified manager for The Star’s operations in Brisbane, having worked in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years. Nine of those years were spent as the Managing Director of Expedia Australia, an online travel agency. The company emphasized Finch’s expertise developing new hotels and expressed trust in his leadership skills, especially in light of the impending opening of The Star Brisbane and the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane area.

Group CEO Robbie Cooke welcomed Finch to the team and highlighted his role in the organizational restructure, highlighting that each venue in Brisbane, Sydney, and the Gold Coast would have its own CEO. Cooke believes that the innovative Queen’s Wharf development and The Star Brisbane will prosper because of Finch’s managerial approach. Finch stressed that establishing goodwill and trust with stakeholders, consumers, visitors, and the community at large is just as significant as the opening’s importance for Queensland.
