Cotai Arena now closed for renovations

January 12, 2024 Macau Casino & HotelEvents & Announcements

In response to GGRAsia’s inquiry, the Venetian Macao casino resort in Macau’s Cotai area acknowledged that the Cotai Arena is currently closed for refurbishment.

Another location on the Londoner Macao resort run by Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd., the Londoner Arena, is now hosting the group’s performances while the Cotai Arena is undergoing repairs.

Some have predicted that the modifications to Cotai Arena won’t be finished for many months. Sands China was contacted by GGRAsia for comment; they have not yet done so.

The refurbishment of Cotai Arena is part of Sands China’s commitments to the Macau government under the terms of its existing gaming license, according to remarks made by the company’s president in July, Wilfred Wong Ying Wai. The Cotai Arena can accommodate up to 15,000 people and opened in 2007.

The final public events at the Cotai Arena took place in late December. Sands China claims that the Londoner Arena can accommodate up to 6,000 people for a variety of events. It’s designed for traveling concerts and music residencies a la Vegas.

All six Macau casino concessionaires, including Sands China, have pledged to the Macau government to increase the number and diversity of non-gambling entertainment and services as a condition of their 10-year gaming licenses, which began in January of last year.
