Vietnam welcomed over 12 million international visitors in 2023
In 2023, Vietnam welcomed 12.6 million international visitors, or 70% of pre-COVID levels, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
Now, the country wants to welcome 17–18 million people when it fully recovers in 2024.
A total of 3.6 million visitors from South Korea and 1.7 million from China were Vietnam’s top source markets in 2023. China contributed significantly, although at a very modest rate—30% as opposed to 2019 levels—in the recovery process.
The recovery rates of other notable economies, such as the US, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia, showed more positive trends. Other countries with an “upbeat” recovery tendency include France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
In 2023, foreign visitors brought in an estimated VND678 trillion in revenue for VietnamNet. This displays the travel and lodging industry’s endurance and steady recovery after the COVID-19 epidemic’s setbacks, as well as the significant economic advantages derived from the tourism sector in Vietnam.
