Saipan casino commission re-appoints Executive Director conditionally for two months

January 2, 2024 SaipanWorld Casino & HotelCrime & Legal

The Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCC) in Saipan has reinstated Andrew Yeom as its executive director; however, due to financial constraints within the commission, Yeom’s tenure is only guaranteed for a period of two months.

Yeom’s reappointment, according to the head of the CCC board, is meant to settle any outstanding issues with Imperial Pacific International’s (IPI) gaming license. Yeom is a petitioner in the case to revoke IPI’s gaming license and is also actively involved in the proceedings.

The Saipan Tribune reports that Yeom is defending IPI’s constitutional rights in the face of efforts to have its license withdrawn. In his defense of a fair and legal settlement to the issues raised by IPI’s activities, he emphasizes that “we’ve got unfinished business” and declares his commitment to seeing to it that the sector advances appropriately.

In spite of ongoing financial challenges and calls for the CCC’s dissolution, it seems that Imperial Pacific International’s settlement of its outstanding debt—roughly $62 million—is a prerequisite for the commission’s ability to settle backlog of bills.

Andrew Yeom’s continued involvement shows how dedicated he is to finding a solution to the complex issues pertaining to IPI’s gaming license. He is in favor of establishing several gaming licenses in the jurisdiction and has already battled against the unauthorized revocation of IPI’s license. In the next months, there will undoubtedly be more oversight and efforts to resolve the issues facing the CCC and the greater Saipan gambling industry.
