PCSO formally launches e-lotto program
After more than ten years of planning, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is set to officially launch its e-lottery program.
It is anticipated that the digital platform, which allows bettors to participate in lottery games by putting wagers online, would significantly affect PCSO. Under the direction of General Manager Mel Robles, the organization anticipates that the e-lotto program will reach 2 million Filipinos by trebling its player base. Nearly a million Filipinos physically wait in line to place bets at lottery shops and kiosks every day.
On the new e-lotto platform, bettors may play lottery games and make payments using digital wallets like GCash or Maya, as well as digital bank accounts, utilizing any internet-connected device. PCSO wants to grow, especially among the 10 million Filipino expats who are thought to exist worldwide.
Robles reportedly ran a campaign to increase interest in the e-lotto platform by requesting a preliminary award from PCSO of two P500 million jackpots totaling P1 billion. Interestingly, PCSO dedicates all of its lottery and sweepstakes earnings—unlike other gaming establishments—to charitable causes.
Although browser-based platforms are now the only ways to access the internet, a PCSO e-lottery app is scheduled to be released soon to increase convenience for lottery participants. The success of the e-lottery platform is expected to have a significant impact on PCSO’s charitable contributions.
