Singapore tallies 1.1 million visitor arrivals in November

December 14, 2023 Singapore Industry Updates

The number of tourists visiting Singapore in November was 1.1 million, a 1% increase from 1.13 million in October, according to the Singapore Tourism Board.

In the first eleven months of 2023, there were 12.37 million visits overall, a 130.2 percent increase from the previous year. This amount is almost 71.1% of the same period in 2019, the year before the pandemic when Singapore hosted 17.39 million tourists.

China and Indonesia were the top two traveler source markets in November. With 183,890 visitors, Indonesia led the world in tourism, followed by mainland China with 104,280. From January to November, there were 2.06 million arrivals from Indonesia, or 74.4 percent of all arrivals during the same period in 2019. In the first eleven months of 2019, 1.23 million visitors came from mainland China, making up around 36.7% of all visits in 2019.

In the same year, Malaysia (985,350), India (977,480), and Australia (972,660) were Singapore’s other main source markets.

While Marina Bay Sands is run by a division of Las Vegas Sands Corp, which also controls Sands China Ltd in the Macau casino industry, Resorts World Sentosa is run by a subsidiary of Genting Singapore Ltd.

In early 2024, Singapore and China want to set up a reciprocal 30-day visa-exemption scheme for some passengers, according to a statement released on December 7 by Singapore’s Prime Minister Department. During a bilateral meeting between China Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Tianjin, northern China, more than 20 memoranda of understanding and agreements were signed, including this one. Passengers with mainland Chinese passports are now required to obtain a visa in order to enter Singapore, whereas Singaporeans are usually granted a 15-day visa-free entry to mainland China.
