Legislator calls resignation of all casino commission board members, immediate revocation of IPI license

A legislator has demanded the immediate cancellation of Imperial Pacific International’s (IPI) casino license in addition to the resignation of every board member of the Commonwealth Casino Commission on Northern Mariana Island.

The community was harmed by the casino proposal, according to Representative Marissa Renee Flores, who emphasized its apparent failure. Flores said that the region was prohibited as a consequence of the project’s impact on the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

Flores blasted the board, citing a recent indictment of the former head of the IPI for alleged criminal activities by a Chinese mainland court, for lax regulation and neglecting to do the required due diligence.

In response, IPI said that Ji Xiabo, the former director, had not been found guilty and that he had not been identified as a criminal syndicate leader by a court decision. The company continued to follow the law.

In response, an IPI representative reported discussions between five CNMI lawmakers and potential casino investors but also said that IPI wanted to be cut out of the conversations.

Within ten days, the company must now provide documentation on the suitability of IPI’s owners. This documentation must include details about the individuals associated with IPI, their employment, any criminal investigations or convictions, and investor information.
